The New Orleans Pelicans have decided to decline the $8 million option on center Kevon Looney’s contract.

Looney, a three-time NBA champion with the Golden State Warriors, signed a two-year, $16 million deal with the Pelicans last summer. However, he struggled to secure a significant role in the rotation, averaging just 2.8 points and 5.6 rebounds over 14 minutes across 21 games.

Following his release into free agency, it is expected that the Los Angeles Lakers will express interest in signing Looney.
