Rimas Kurtinaitis: Lithuania’s Loss to Ukraine Is Not a Setback

Lithuanian national team coach Rimas Kurtinaitis shared his thoughts on the recent match against Ukraine, which ended 92-96.
“This was our first game, and they had an advantage in that regard, having gathered a week earlier and played friendly matches. This was their second or third match (it was the second, to clarify).
We didn’t set specific defensive combination tasks because our focus is on the British and Italian teams. We gave the players more freedom, especially on defense, allowing them to decide when to switch positions and when not to. Much of it worked out well, though there were mistakes, but I don’t see it as a tragedy since we still have four days. We are on the right track; our team is good. We will keep working in training.
Regarding Mykhailiuk? They played a Spanish pick-and-roll. At first, he missed shots… He’s a good player.
We didn’t prepare specifically for the Spanish pick-and-roll because I don’t think it’s right to prepare for this particular game. It was a friendly match, which allows for improvisation. Unfortunately, it ended in defeat, but I don’t see any tragedy. We know our weaknesses and will try to fix them.”
