The Sacramento Kings have informed guard Zach LaVine that they intend to buy out his $49 million contract if they are unable to arrange a trade before the start of the season, according to ESPN journalist James Ham.
Ham explained, “They were upfront with him, saying: ‘Listen, if you pick up the option, everything becomes uncertain. As a club, we have to make a business decision regarding you — and if it comes to a buyout, it needs to happen now. Because later, it won’t be beneficial for anyone.'”
Despite this, LaVine chose to activate his $49 million option, as he had no chance of securing such a salary on the free agent market.
