Liverpool’s head coach, Andoni Iraola, shared insights about the journey he hopes the team and fans will enjoy together throughout the current season in an interview with the club’s press office.
After returning this week to the AXA training center following their US tour, the Reds are set to play their fourth pre-season friendly on Sunday against Monaco ahead of the upcoming campaign.
“I hope everyone had a great summer break, and I trust you are looking forward to Sunday’s match just as much as we are.
These games, including the ones scheduled for next week against Como, will be extremely valuable as we begin preparations for our Premier League opener at Newcastle in a few weeks.
Our US tour was positive and provided an important introduction to the club for me and my staff.
It was fantastic to see the fans in Chicago, Nashville, and New York – it truly reminded us of the club’s scale and popularity. We also managed to complete a lot of excellent work on the training pitch, which will benefit us as the season progresses.
Now that we’re back home, it’s time to ramp up preparations and continue the hard work we started in America.
We have almost the entire squad together now, which will be crucial in the coming days and weeks. Victor Muñoz, our new signing, joined us at AXA this week after being part of Spain’s squad that won the World Cup last month, alongside Virgil van Dijk, Cody Gakpo, and Alisson Becker.
Alexis Mac Allister, the last of our World Cup participants, will also join us on Monday.
Sunday will undoubtedly be a significant day – for my staff and me personally – as we host our first home match.
I have experienced Anfield from the other side before, and it was something special, but I know that stepping in as Liverpool’s head coach will feel completely different, and I’m very excited about that.
When I first joined the club, I spoke about emotions and the connection between players, staff, and supporters. That is incredibly important and will become even more so in the future.
We want to provide you with a team you can identify with and be proud of, and we will give our all every day to make that happen.
