Ange Postecoglou emerges as frontrunner for Scotland manager role after World Cup exit
Scotland is currently searching for a new head coach following the resignation of Steve Clarke, who stepped down after the team’s exit from the 2026 World Cup at the group stage. The leading candidate to fill the vacancy is Ange Postecoglou, the former manager of Celtic, Tottenham, and Nottingham Forest. David Moyes is also among the contenders for the position. Scotland’s 0-3 defeat to Brazil ended their hopes of advancing to the playoffs.
In his farewell to the squad, Clarke reflected, “The most emotional part of this goodbye is my players, without whom we wouldn’t have the memories we’ve built from 2019 until today. They deserve all the praise, and it has been an honor for me to be their boss. I wish my successor all the best.”
Jan Maxwell, head of the local football association, expressed gratitude to Clarke for the progress made under his leadership and for guiding the national team back to major tournaments.
