England international Anthony Gordon recently shared his insights on the differences between his national team and Spain. Drawing from his experience playing at Barcelona, Gordon highlighted a key contrast in playing styles.
“We don’t possess the same strength as the Spaniards when it comes to controlling the game like they do. It’s just not ingrained in us. I’m not sure if it’s something you can even teach,” he explained.
“Having played in Spain, I can confidently say their possession style is distinct. Sometimes I watch their decisions on the ball and think, ‘I don’t know how you even spotted that.’
“That’s their style of play. I don’t know if there’s a name for it or if it’s something we’ll ever be able to replicate, but they definitely play differently,” the England player concluded.
Tomorrow, England will face Spain in the opening match of Group A3 in the UEFA Nations League.
