Premier League, Bundesliga, La Liga, and Serie A have jointly issued a statement calling for greater transparency in the governance of global football.
The leading football leagues have demanded the establishment of a new FIFA governance structure that evolves “for the sake of football,” urging the governing body to be transparent, objective, proportionate, and inclusive.
“We call on FIFA to:
Grant stakeholders a genuine role in decision-making: FIFA must create a permanent body representing key stakeholders, including national associations, leagues, clubs, and both men’s and women’s players. This new entity should be fully informed about new initiatives and play a meaningful role in FIFA’s decision-making process. The consent of stakeholder groups directly affected by decisions should be required for matters concerning, among others, the calendar, employment, competitions, and football’s core assets,” the statement reads.
It is worth recalling that the FIFA presidential election will take place at the 77th FIFA Congress in Rabat, Morocco, on March 18.
