The Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) has confirmed the extension of Luis de la Fuente‘s contract until 2032 after several weeks of negotiations. The agreement, approved by the Board of Directors, will be officially announced at a ceremony held at the City of Football, with the presence of President Rafael Louzán and the coach himself.
Addressing the Board, Rafael Louzán stated, “We are seeking a project that guarantees stability and trust. This proposal is based on our confidence in Luis de la Fuente and the sporting project he leads, designed for a long-term cycle of important competitions. He is the most decorated coach in the history of the national team, and after fourteen years working with us, Luis de la Fuente deserves a long future with the RFEF.”
De la Fuente‘s contract was originally set to run until the UEFA Euro 2028 tournament in the United Kingdom and Ireland, with initial discussions considering an extension through the 2030 FIFA World Cup hosted by Spain, Portugal, and Morocco.
However, the Federation has placed full trust in the coach, and both parties have agreed to extend their collaboration until 2032. This extension comes with a salary increase, positioning De la Fuente among the highest-paid national team coaches worldwide.
De la Fuente has already secured all three major titles he has competed for with the Spanish national team: the UEFA Nations League in 2023, the European Championship in 2024, and the World Cup in 2026.
He is on track to become one of the most successful national team managers in the history of world football.
