England forward Anthony Gordon shared his thoughts with ITV following his team’s 2-3 defeat to Spain in their opening UEFA Nations League match.
“We missed a great opportunity. It was an excellent game and a fantastic experience to play in. Spain attacked very well and demonstrated a high level of performance. In matches like this, where individual mistakes decide the outcome, it often feels like you lost the game yourself rather than the opponent winning it. But honestly, they were no better than us, and we were no worse than them.
I don’t believe there’s a big gap between us. From how I felt on the pitch, we’re on the same level. We could definitely have won the match. I’m confident we would have secured the victory if we had converted the penalty. It’s easy to say that in hindsight, but I don’t think we’re behind them. Confidence doesn’t always guarantee a win, but today’s match showed that we are a top-level team,” Gordon commented.
