The final day of the Round of 16 at the 2026 FIFA World Cup will kick off with a clash between Australia and Egypt. Neither team has ever won a knockout stage match before, with Egypt making their debut at this stage of the tournament.
Australia secured their place in the Round of 16 by finishing second in Group D, pulling off a surprising victory over Turkey and drawing with Paraguay. Defensively, the Australian side has been solid, but their attacking threat remains limited.
Egypt had the chance to top their group and finish ahead of Belgium but were held to a 1-1 draw by Iran in their final group match. Nonetheless, this World Cup already marks a historic achievement for the Pharaohs.
The winner of today’s encounter will face the victor of the Argentina versus Cape Verde match.
