Borussia Dortmund’s sporting director Ole Bock has provided an update on the fitness status of three players—Nico Schlotterbeck, Emre Can, and Karni Chukwuemeka—ahead of the German Supercup clash against Bayern Munich.
During the preseason preparations, both captain Emre Can and defender Nico Schlotterbeck remain sidelined, with no confirmed dates for their return to action.
Can has been out since March following an anterior cruciate ligament rupture, while Schlotterbeck sustained a medial ankle ligament injury during the World Cup.
Speaking at a press conference on Thursday, Ole Bock confirmed that there is currently no precise timeline for the comeback of these two key defenders.
“Even the most experienced doctors and our rehabilitation coaches find it extremely difficult to predict the future. I see them both working hard every day in the rehab center, full of motivation. They continue to contribute significantly as team leaders. So, no one can say exactly how much longer it will take. And I certainly am not the one to do so,” Bock stated.
Regarding Karni Chukwuemeka, who was injured during Borussia Dortmund’s 1-0 friendly win over Tokyo last week, Bock offered more encouraging news.
“Karni took a knee injury a few days ago. I’m not too worried that it’s anything serious. At least, he hasn’t had problems like this before,” Bock confirmed.
It is worth noting that the German Supercup match between Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich is scheduled for August 22.
