Cristiano Ronaldo Announces Retirement from Portugal National Team
Portugal captain Cristiano Ronaldo has officially severed ties with the national team following a dispute with head coach Jorge Jesus. The coach left the legendary striker on the bench for the match against Norway and later announced that Gonçalo Ramos would start in the upcoming game against Denmark. Upon learning of the coach’s decision, Ronaldo left the team camp in Copenhagen and formally bid farewell to the squad he had represented since 2003, having played 234 matches for the national side.
“After the national team’s head coach’s press conference and a conversation with the president of the Portuguese Football Federation, I have decided to leave the training camp. In time, I will reveal to all Portuguese fans the reasons that led me to depart from the team to which I have always given my all. For now, it is the right moment to wish success to Portugal and to all my teammates without exception,” the forward stated on his Instagram.
