Portugal coach Jorge Jesus resolves dispute with Cristiano Ronaldo ahead of Denmark match
Pedro Proença, the head of the Portuguese Football Federation, arrived in Copenhagen to resolve internal tensions within the Portugal national team ahead of their UEFA Nations League clash against Denmark on October 1. According to A Bola, the tripartite talks concluded successfully, creating a positive atmosphere and resolving the disagreements.
The conflict stemmed from a decision by Portugal head coach Jorge Jesus, who initially did not plan to field the 41-year-old striker Cristiano Ronaldo in the away Nations League match against Norway, which ended in a 2-1 victory for Portugal. However, Jesus informed Ronaldo that he intended to bring him on as a substitute for the final 30 minutes of the game.
Although Ronaldo warmed up, he ultimately did not enter the pitch. This marked the first time in 18 years that the legendary forward did not appear in an official match. After the final whistle, Ronaldo openly showed his dissatisfaction and immediately went to the dressing room. On September 29, he skipped the team training session and instead worked individually in the gym.
