Ilian Filipov, president of the Bulgarian football club Botev, was murdered last night. The killing took place as the businessman was returning home after attending his team’s match, according to the Bulgarian news outlet Nova.
Sources report that Filipov was shot once in the head near his residence. There is currently no information regarding any arrests or suspects. Law enforcement authorities are stopping suspicious vehicles and actively searching for the perpetrator.
It has been noted that a wooded area lies close to the residential complex where Filipov lived. Investigators believe the killer may have been waiting for the businessman in that forested zone. The neighborhood where the crime occurred is relatively new, featuring many recently constructed buildings. Due to this, local residents have frequently complained about inadequate street lighting in the area.
