Declan Rice Acknowledges Ghana’s Tough Defensive Challenge in Goalless Draw
England midfielder Declan Rice reflected on the draw against Ghana in their opening match of the 2026 World Cup, which ended 0-0.
Speaking to BBC Sport, Rice said, “The opponents played very compactly, using a 5-4-1 formation without the ball, which left them little space to build from. On the other hand, we could have done more with possession.”
He added, “Credit to Ghana. It was a tough game, and they have quality players, so it was never going to be easy. We still have one more group game to secure first place, so we need to stay positive.”
Rice also noted, “Many top nations draw their opening matches, so there’s no need to be pessimistic. We will keep a positive mindset.”
