Dwyane Wade, the NBA legend from the Miami Heat, has opened up about his decision to retire in 2019 at the age of 37, despite having the ability to continue playing for several more seasons.
“I was deeply moved by the ovation I received during my farewell. I gave everything I had to the game and was able to step away peacefully.
When my final season ended, I felt physically and mentally capable of continuing. However, I chose to close that chapter before the current generation could see me as a very poor player.
I was averaging 16 points per game. I could still score. But if I had stayed for two more seasons, which I believed I could, that generation would have said, ‘He’s terrible,'” Wade explained.
In his last season, Dwyane Wade averaged 15 points, 4.2 assists, and 4 rebounds per game.
It is worth recalling that Wade won three NBA championships with the Miami Heat in 2006, 2012, and 2013.
