Enzo Maresca, the head coach of Manchester City, reflected on the team’s preseason preparations ahead of the new campaign.
“Preseason can be challenging at times — you might fall in love with players, but then during the season they don’t perform the same way. The preseason is valuable because it demands hard work, helps players understand and get to know each other. However, it always takes time. The preseason went well for some players, but now the real work begins, the real matches, and we’ll probably need to see how things develop from here.
One surprise was definitely Ryan Makadu; no one expected that. He performed very well. I also really like players who operate so aggressively on the flanks. Players like Husa or even Ruben simply confirmed their quality. That’s why I’m so pleased and talk about attitude, because they all showed a great mindset,” Maresca summed up his first summer offseason with the team.
