Steven Eustachy, who scored the winning goal for Canada against South Africa, shared his emotions following the team’s advancement to the Round of 16. The Canadians are set to face the winner of the Netherlands versus Morocco match in the next stage.
“We worked incredibly hard to secure this victory. We really wanted to deliver this win to all Canadians. We just kept believing and fighting,” he said.
“That goal was amazing, but when I struck the ball, I felt like everyone was striking it with me. The ball hit the net, so I’m very happy.”
Regarding their upcoming opponent in the Round of 16, Eustachy added, “We showed Morocco and the Netherlands our style of play and made it clear that if they advance, they will face the toughest match of this World Cup. I think we’ve done an incredible job, and next week we have an amazing game ahead.”
