Fernando Muslera Apologizes to Uruguay After World Cup Exit
Uruguay’s goalkeeper Fernando Muslera has expressed his apologies following his performance at the 2026 World Cup. The goalkeeper conceded goals in all three group stage matches, and a costly error in the final game ultimately contributed to Uruguay missing out on the tournament’s knockout phase.
“I never imagined I would suffer so deeply because of this sport, especially after all the hard work and preparation,” Muslera said. “I regret not being able to perform well at the World Cup. I have apologized to my teammates and to all the people of Uruguay, although I know that is not enough.
“Now is the time to be with those closest to me, to gather my strength, and to move forward. This sport and this position are like that; sometimes they give you a lot, and sometimes they take everything away,” he added, as reported by Marca.
