Ghana Coach Carlos Queiroz Criticizes VAR Decisions in World Cup Draw with England
Ghana national team head coach Carlos Queiroz criticized the video assistant referees (VAR) for missing all the crucial incidents in the second half of their World Cup group stage match against England, which ended 0-0. The African side’s manager identified at least two red card offenses and one penalty that were overlooked.
“The VAR officials seemed to be on vacation during the second half or went out for coffee. I also enjoy a coffee from time to time,” Queiroz told The Athletic.
According to Queiroz, the referees should have first sent off England goalkeeper Jordan Pickford for a collision with Prince Adu. Then, near the end of the match, Ezri Konsa fouled Adu inside the penalty area as Adu was breaking through one-on-one with Pickford. Neither incident resulted in any disciplinary action.
