Graham Potter: Sweden Unlikely to Beat France Even with Perfect Performance
Sweden’s head coach Graham Potter was self-critical following their Round of 16 defeat to France at the World Cup, acknowledging the clear superiority of their opponents.
“We faced a truly strong team. Of course, anything is possible in football, and they too can have off days, but I wish France success! We needed to play perfectly that evening, and even then, I’m not sure it would have been enough because the level of the opposition was very high,” Potter admitted.
Nonetheless, he does not view Sweden’s overall performance as a failure.
“We are deeply disappointed to be leaving the tournament. We did not expect to return home this soon and wanted more. I am proud of my team. For many players, this was their debut tournament. We are not yet at the level of our opponents. That is the reality. We did everything we could and performed very well in the first half.”
