Barcelona head coach Hans-Dieter Flick has shared his thoughts on the club’s acquisition of Rodri, who was recognized as the best player at the recent World Cup.
“Certainly, this was a tremendous opportunity for us to secure him because he is a fantastic player. Moreover, he brings something special to every team he plays for, and for me, it’s great to have him here now. I believe he is probably the best defensive midfielder. He can control the game, but he also contributes significantly to the defense. He excels in aerial duels, which is very important for us. And, of course, he elevates the level of every player around him,” Flick said, as reported by the Barca Family News Telegram channel.
Barcelona officially announced the signing of Rodri from Manchester City yesterday, August 18. The 30-year-old midfielder has signed a contract running until June 30, 2030.
