James Rodriguez, one of the greatest footballers in Colombia’s history, has announced his retirement from international football. He made the announcement in his characteristic passionate Latin American style.
“The moment has come. Thank you for every match, every moment of joy, every tear, and every dream we shared. Representing the colors of the Colombia national team has been one of the greatest honors of my life. Thank you, Colombia. Forever,” James wrote on social media.
The 35-year-old midfielder made his debut for Colombia in October 2011. Since then, he has earned 131 caps, scored 31 goals, and provided 43 assists for the national team. James was the top scorer for Colombia at the 2014 FIFA World Cup. At the most recent World Cup, he helped the team reach the round of 16, where they were eliminated by Switzerland on penalties.
