UEFA has confirmed the officiating team for the upcoming Nations League 2026/27 opener between Hungary and Ukraine.
The match will be overseen by English referee Jared Gillett. He will be assisted on the lines by fellow countrymen Neil Davies and Nick Greenhalgh. The fourth official will be Robert Jones. The Video Assistant Referee (VAR) duties will be handled by Andrew Dallas from Scotland, with Englishman Peter Bankes serving as his assistant.
Jared Gillett holds a unique place in football history. On April 8, 2017, he was in charge of the VAR system during an Australian domestic league match—Australia being his country of birth. After reviewing video footage, Gillett advised the on-field referee to award a penalty, marking the world’s first official use of VAR in a competitive match.
The fixture between Hungary and Ukraine is scheduled for September 25 at the Puskás Arena in Budapest. Kickoff is set for 18:45 UTC.
