Jesse Marsh Praises Canada’s World Cup Performance Despite Round of 16 Exit
Canada’s head coach Jesse Marsch delivered an unconventional assessment of his team’s performance at the World Cup. The Canadians exited the tournament in the round of 16 after a heavy 0-3 defeat to Morocco. Despite the harsh scoreline, the American coach refrained from criticizing his players during the post-match press conference. Instead, he expressed genuine admiration for their overall display and even made a bold comparison with their opponents.
“We were the better team. What a fantastic squad—we’re better being ourselves than being them, even though Morocco is strong. I’d rather be us,” Marsch said. “I’m proud of my guys. I couldn’t be prouder. We’ve come a long way. Losing to Morocco isn’t surprising. Of course, we wanted to celebrate advancing to the next round, but this is the furthest we could have gone. Now we have to keep building on what we’ve achieved.”
