Germany’s defender Jonathan Tah reflected on the factors behind his team’s hard-fought 2-1 victory over Ivory Coast in the second group stage match:
“It was a win built on mentality and team spirit. We never gave up. We kept fighting and knew they would tire.
The players who came off the bench brought incredible energy. Deniz once again showed how crucial he is when he steps onto the pitch.
We knew it would be a tough game because Ivory Coast can play at a very high level. Now we have to keep going in the same spirit,” said the central defender of the German national team following their 2-1 triumph.
