Khuzhamov: It Took Me Just Days to Understand Goalkeeper Demands
Ukraine national team goalkeeping coach spoke on Denis Boyko’s YouTube channel, sharing his thoughts on Andrea Maldera’s appointment as head coach and his own role within the squad.
“The communication is structured so that it takes me just a day or two to fully grasp what is expected from the goalkeepers. However, right away there was an added focus on playing out from the back. So, I have enough time to understand everything, and now we’re simply moving forward and continuing our work.”
The coaching staff is entirely new: Taras Stepanenko, Volodymyr Yezersky, head coach Andrea Maldera, his Italian assistant, and you as the goalkeeper coach. How does the interaction and communication work during and after training sessions? Does Maldera speak to you through a translator, or do you switch to English?
“The communication is mixed because we always have a translator with us, who translates pretty quickly. We can also switch to English. Before training, we discuss everything thoroughly in our coaches’ meetings to keep things as efficient and smooth as possible, so that everyone knows their role. Then we step out and work together like ants—hop, hop, all in sync.”
