Fenerbahce and Lyon played out a 1-1 draw in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League qualifying playoff tie on Turkish soil.
The hosts started the match with great intensity, pressing hard in the early stages. However, Lyon gradually eased the pressure and took the lead just before halftime. In the 40th minute, Loïs Openda headed home a cross from Corentin Tolisso to put the visitors ahead.
Shortly after the break, Mason Greenwood fired a powerful shot into the far top corner to level the score for Fenerbahce. Both sides had opportunities to claim victory—Openda and Nene Dorjeles tested the woodwork, while the goalkeepers made several crucial saves.
The match ended 1-1, leaving the tie finely poised ahead of the second leg next week in France.
