Benfica head coach Marcos Silva praised midfielder Georgiy Sudakov for his performance in yesterday’s UEFA Europa League qualifying match against Hearts, which ended in a 1-1 draw. The Ukrainian player was on the pitch for 64 minutes.
“This is exactly what we expect from him. We provide him with options and specific positioning on the field so that the ball reaches him under favorable conditions, as happened many times last night.
If you look at the number of passes Sudakov received between the lines, especially in the first half, sometimes even inside the penalty area, it’s clear that these are the kinds of opportunities we want to offer him. We want the ball to come to him in good situations.
We understand that Sudakov is a player with different attributes compared to Rios, who operated on the other side of our attacking triangle. That’s precisely what we want to give the player in this role: not to roam the attacking line but to show patience. This is where creativity and other crucial qualities at this level must come into play,” Silva stated.
