Mbappé Ends Nike Partnership to Join Swiss Brand On as Ambassador
Real Madrid striker and France captain Kylian Mbappé has ended his long-standing partnership with Nike and signed a new ambassador deal with the Swiss sportswear brand On. The company announced the agreement on Friday, September 18, coinciding with its official entry into the football market.
Mbappé had been associated with Nike since 2006, starting when he was just eight years old. Over the years, he became one of the leading faces of the American brand’s football division. Financial details of his new contract with On have not been disclosed.
“From the very beginning, I was attracted by the opportunity to create something entirely new together that will help shape the future of football,” Mbappé said.
On plans to launch its first football boots next year, making Mbappé’s switch a pivotal move as the company expands into the world’s largest sports market.
At the same time, On revealed the appointment of Thierry Henry as its football director. The 1998 World Cup winner is expected to play a key role in developing the brand’s new football division.
Founded in 2010, the Swiss brand had primarily focused on running and tennis footwear until now. Among its shareholders is legendary tennis player Roger Federer, who also ended his partnership with Nike late in his career to join On.
Mbappé’s departure represents a significant loss for Nike, which still holds contracts with other top footballers such as Erling Haaland and Vinícius Júnior. Previously, Nike also lost Lamine Yamal, who signed with Adidas in 2024.
