Michael Olise One Assist Away from Matching Pelé’s World Cup Record
French midfielder Michael Olise is on the verge of matching a legendary World Cup record set by Brazilian forward Pelé.
The 24-year-old winger provided two assists in France’s commanding 3-0 victory over Sweden in the Round of 16 at the 2026 World Cup. With those contributions, Olise has now registered five assists since the start of the tournament. According to the statistical portal Opta Sport, only Pelé, with six assists in the 1970 World Cup, has recorded more in a single tournament since assist data began being tracked in 1966.
France will face Paraguay in the Round of 16 on July 5, where Olise has the opportunity to equal Pelé’s historic mark.
