Mourinho Targets Schlotterbeck and Inkapije to Strengthen Real Madrid Defense
Real Madrid, under the guidance of new head coach José Mourinho, is eager to strengthen its squad and is targeting the acquisition of two more players.
Following the signing of Ibrahima Konaté, the Portuguese manager is now focused on securing a second central defender. He has subtly indicated dissatisfaction with the current options in central defense. Specifically, Mourinho is in search of a left-footed centre-back, prioritizing passing ability and the capacity to operate effectively in the left-back position.
Initially, Riccardo Calafiori and Josko Gvardiol were considered Real’s primary transfer targets as left-footed defenders. However, Calafiori now appears an unlikely option, and Manchester City’s star has been removed from the list of potential signings.
Mourinho has since identified two more promising candidates: Nico Schlotterbeck from Borussia Dortmund and Piero Incapié from Arsenal.
Schlotterbeck has long been on Real’s radar and is awaiting an offer from the “Los Blancos.” His contract includes a €50 million release clause that could be activated.
Incapié was considered as a left-back option prior to the signing of Marc Cucurella, but Real ultimately opted for the Spanish international.
A third name that has surfaced recently is Alessandro Bastoni, widely regarded as Mourinho’s top priority. However, signing Bastoni would require a significant outlay, as Inter Milan is reluctant to part with the defender.
