Opta Supercomputer Predicts Argentina as World Cup Favorite
The supercomputer Opta has assessed the chances of teams winning the World Cup currently taking place across three North American countries: the USA, Canada, and Mexico.
After two rounds of the group stage, the reigning champions Argentina hold the highest probability of retaining their title. Lionel Scaloni’s side is rated with a 15.6 percent chance of winning the tournament. Argentina secured six points from their opening matches, defeating Algeria 3-0 and Austria 2-0, thereby confirming their place in the knockout phase ahead of schedule.
France ranks second in the odds with a 15.1 percent likelihood of lifting the trophy. The top three is completed by the current European champions Spain, whose chances stand at 12.8 percent. Both France and Spain have also already secured qualification to the playoff rounds.
