Paraguay Declares National Holiday After World Cup Win Over Germany
Paraguay’s President Santiago Peña has declared a national holiday following the country’s qualification for the Round of 16 at the FIFA World Cup, achieved after their sensational victory over Germany (1-1, 4-3 on penalties).
“Today the entire nation celebrates. We celebrate the triumph of a team that embodies the very essence of our identity: fighting spirit, faith, and the strength of a people who never give up. Thank you, the ‘Albirroja,’ for this immense joy and for once again uniting millions of Paraguayans under one flag. Decree No. 6280: good things come to those who know how to wait. Forward, Paraguay!” the president wrote on his personal X account, attaching the official document that announces June 30 as a public holiday across the country.
Paraguay will face the winner of the France versus Sweden match in the Round of 16, with that fixture set to be decided later tonight.
