Patrick Vieira has been appointed as the new head coach of the Senegal national team. The former French international midfielder was born in Dakar, which gives him a strong connection to his new role.

Interestingly, despite Vieira’s appointment, the process of dismissing Pape Diop is still ongoing. Diop led Senegal during the World Cup but was relieved of his duties following the tournament.

The duration of Vieira’s contract has not been officially disclosed yet.

Vieira’s first major challenge will be to guide the “Lions of Teranga” through the qualification campaign for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations, with the preliminary matches set to begin in September.
