The South African national football team has officially announced the departure of Hugo Broos from his role as head coach. His resignation came a month after Bafana Bafana’s exit in the round of 32 at the World Cup against Canada.
The 74-year-old Belgian coach had been in charge since May 2021. During his tenure, he led South Africa to a bronze medal at the 2024 Africa Cup of Nations and guided the team to advance beyond the group stage of the World Cup for the first time in the country’s history. Under his leadership, the national team recorded 24 wins, 19 draws, and 12 losses.
The South African Football Association has not confirmed rumors about Broos ending his coaching career. However, the federation’s president, Danny Jordaan, bid a warm farewell to the coach, expressing sincere gratitude for his contributions.
