Pochettino Criticizes Balogun’s Red Card in USA’s World Cup Exit
United States head coach Mauricio Pochettino expressed his belief that forward Folarin Balogun was unfairly sent off during their World Cup round of 16 match against Bosnia, which ended 2-0. Balogun was dismissed in the 64th minute following a VAR review.
“In my opinion, that was definitely not a red card. There was no intention to step on the opponent’s foot. It was a normal football incident that happened accidentally,” Pochettino explained.
Balogun is very upset by the decision. “It was an action without any malice, so he is understandably distressed. There’s nothing we can do now. That’s football. I hope we advance further so he can help the team again,” the coach added.
Pochettino also noted that “all the contentious decisions today went against us, but the players managed their emotions well and controlled the game.”
It should be noted that Folarin Balogun will now miss the World Cup round of 16 match against Belgium.
