Isaac Ajar will continue as Red Bull‘s teammate to Max Verstappen for the 2027 season. The 21-year-old driver was promoted to the senior team this year after his debut season with Racing Bulls and has closed the gap to Verstappen more than any other teammate since Daniel Ricciardo in 2018. Ajar’s best finish this season was third place at the Monaco Grand Prix.
Red Bull team principal Laurent Mekies described the decision as “an easy one.” Mekies stated, “Since joining us at the start of the year, Isaac has delivered outstanding performances both on and off the track, especially considering this is only his second season in Formula 1.”
Ajar is set to return to Red Bull at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix this weekend after missing the previous three races due to a wrist fracture sustained during boxing training.
Ajar commented, “I joined this team eight months ago and immediately recognized the scale and ambition of the organization. Working alongside so many talented people, you realize what a privilege it is to race for such an incredible team next to a four-time world champion like Max.
I am constantly striving to listen, learn, and improve every day, which only fuels my excitement for what lies ahead.”
In the first half of the season, Ajar was on average 0.239 seconds slower than Verstappen in qualifying but managed to outqualify the Dutchman three times—in Australia, Japan, and the United Kingdom.
