Santi Cazorla Officially Announces Retirement from Professional Football
Former Arsenal and Spain midfielder Santi Cazorla has announced his retirement from professional football. The 41-year-old Spaniard shared the news on his social media channels with the following message:
“Now that everything has quieted down, with my boots hung up and the noise replaced by silence, everything makes sense. Because the end was not somewhere else. It was at home, the very place where the magic began. Some stories never truly end. They stay with you forever. Like the number eight (on my shirt). Like infinity.”
Cazorla enjoyed successful spells at Villarreal, Malaga, and Arsenal, where he became a fan favorite and won the FA Cup twice. On the international stage, he earned 81 caps for Spain and was part of the squads that lifted the European Championship titles in 2008 and 2012.
Throughout his career, Cazorla battled a severe Achilles tendon injury that required 10 surgeries and skin grafts.
He spent his final season playing for Real Oviedo, appearing in 28 matches in La Liga 2 and registering one assist.
