Louis van Gaal Steps Down as Ajax Supervisory Board Advisor
Renowned coach Louis van Gaal has stepped down from his role as an advisor to the supervisory board of football club Ajax. Van Gaal had been providing consultancy on football-related matters since October 2023.
Van Gaal commented, “Michael van Praag is my friend, and we worked well together at Ajax in the past. When he was chairman of the supervisory board, he reached out to me in 2023, and I was happy to assist both him and Ajax. There were many changes in key positions, and at that time, there were too few football experts. As an external consultant, I was able to help fill important football roles, such as the appointments of Alex Kruys and Marijn Bijker. During this period, new football specialists also joined the organization. However, Michael left in 2025, Alex departed the club, and now Marijn has also gone. It is now my time to leave.”
The Ajax supervisory board expressed regret over Van Gaal’s decision to resign but understands his choice and thanks him for his guidance, according to the club’s press office.
