The Scottish Football Association has withdrawn its support for Gianni Infantino and will not back his re-election as FIFA president, executive director Ian Maxwell revealed in an interview with BBC Sport.

“The stance of the Scottish Football Association (SFA) has been clear since the UEFA meeting involving 55 associations. We aligned ourselves with UEFA’s position, and 55 countries carry more weight than a single vote. Their statement has since expressed a lack of confidence in FIFA’s leadership, and the SFA fully agrees with that decision. The Scottish Football Association will not vote for Gianni Infantino in the upcoming re-election scheduled for early 2027,” Maxwell stated.

Currently, no other candidates have declared their intention to challenge Infantino for the FIFA presidency ahead of the November 18 deadline.
