Spain’s Dominance Yields 50 Shots Without Goals
The Spanish national team demonstrates a unique but extremely ineffective statistic in World Cups. According to Opta analysts, since their last goal in the tournament, La Roja has made 49 shots and completed about 2,500 passes without managing to score. This goalless stretch has been ongoing since the group stage of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, when the Spaniards scored against Japan in the 11th minute.
Since then, the team has played goalless matches against Morocco in the Round of 16 of the last World Cup and against Cape Verde this past Monday. Averaging more than 16 shots and 800 passes per game, the Spaniards demonstrate total but absolutely sterile control. They will need to improve their finishing in the next match against Saudi Arabia.
