Thomas Tuchel Rules Out Replacing Harry Kane Against Ghana
England head coach Thomas Tuchel defended his captain Harry Kane following a disappointing World Cup match against Ghana. Tuchel made it clear that he never considered replacing Kane with Ivan Toney or Ollie Watkins during the game.
“Substituting Harry Kane when we’re pressing and the score is still 0-0? Taking Harry off? Absolutely not. Everyone gave their all, and in our first match, three different players scored. Relying on Harry is just natural because he likes responsibility and embraces it. He wasn’t as involved in the game as we would have liked, but there simply wasn’t any space on the pitch. In the few small opportunities he had, he was just unlucky. We depend on Harry because he’s our striker, but we don’t rely on him excessively,” Tuchel told the Daily Mirror.
It’s worth noting that Kane had only 19 touches throughout the entire match and missed a clear scoring chance in the second half.
