Two Afghan-American Drivers Arrested for Robbing England Squad Equipment
The identities of the individuals who stole from the England national team during the World Cup have been revealed, according to the Daily Mail. The theft occurred while the team’s equipment was being transported from Florida to the England base in Kansas City.
The Daily Mail reports that the suspects are 40-year-old Mustafa Salik and 35-year-old Erfan Kamal, both Afghan nationals who obtained American citizenship due to their assistance in combating Sunni Muslim militants. They were employed as drivers for Vista Trans Holding and lived in San Antonio, Texas. If convicted, they face up to seven years in prison.
The lawyer representing Kamal stated, “Mr. Kamal is a devout Muslim and believes that theft contradicts his religion. The alleged offense was non-violent, all items were returned to the supposed victim, and Mr. Kamal did not evade law enforcement.”
According to the attorney for Salik, his client served the US military for 15 years, aiding in the fight against Sunni Muslim militants before immigrating to the United States. Like his colleague, he argued that sending the suspect back to his homeland would mean certain death.
