Daria Snigur Upsets Elina Svitolina in Wimbledon First Round
Ukraine’s top tennis player Elina Svitolina suffered a surprising first-round defeat at Wimbledon, losing to compatriot Daria Snigur with a scoreline of 7-5, 6-2.
The match began smoothly for Svitolina, who quickly established a 4-0 lead and appeared to be in full control. However, Snigur turned the tide dramatically, winning seven of the next eight games to take the first set 7-5.
The second set started off more evenly, with both players tied at 2-2. From that point, Snigur seized the momentum, securing several crucial breaks and ultimately dominating the set 6-2, leaving Svitolina with no chance to recover.
In the second round, Snigur will face France’s fourth seed, Léolia Jeanjean, who is ranked 132nd in the WTA standings.
