Vitaliy Glyut Chooses to Represent Ukraine Over the USA at U19 Level
Left winger Vitaliy Hlyut has opened up about his decision to represent Ukraine’s U19 national team. Currently, he is competing with the squad at the UEFA European Under-19 Championship.
“I was born in Husiatyn, Ternopil region. Later, I moved to the United States, where I have lived for 12 years. Playing for Ukraine means a lot to me; it has always been my goal. Having lived in America for so long, every time I join the national team feels a bit like coming home. It’s very special to be here,” Hlyut said.
He revealed that he had been called up to the U.S. youth teams for friendly matches. “That was a big deal for me because it was international level. But I never put my hand on my heart for the U.S. I’m Ukrainian, and I only pledge allegiance to Ukraine. From the start, I knew I wanted to play for Ukraine. So when I got my first call-up, it felt like a huge weight was lifted off my shoulders. I understand that I need to perform well to keep my place and earn future call-ups.”
Describing his football attributes, Hlyut highlighted his technique, dribbling, speed, creativity, and decision-making. “Among the senior national team players, I’m similar to Shaparenko. He also enjoys playing in tight spaces and has excellent ball control,” he added.
