Werner Secures Leipzig’s Champions League Spot but Loses His Job
Ole Werner has left his position as head coach of Red Bull Leipzig. The decision to dismiss the 38-year-old specialist was made by the board of directors, which included Oliver Mintzlaff, Jürgen Klopp, and Mario Gomez.
After being relieved of his duties as RB Leipzig’s coach, Ole Werner addressed his former players, staff, and fans of the Saxon club in an official statement.
“Unfortunately, due to the circumstances surrounding this decision, I will not be able to say goodbye to all of you in person. I hope to do so later! Therefore, I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for a year that I remember with great warmth.
A year ago, we set a clear task for ourselves — to bring RB back to international competitions, to give the team a new look both in terms of appearance and playing style, and to establish a new, stable hierarchy in the dressing room. Many changes were implemented.
A year later, we can say that together we managed to accomplish this mission. Much of what we achieved has now become routine for us. A year ago, many would not have believed that we could do it. The club is back on the right track!
I would like to thank my players for their dedication, trust in me, and mutual support at all stages. Thank you,” Werner wrote.
It should be added that the 2025/26 season saw Red Bull Leipzig finish in third place in the Bundesliga and qualify for the Champions League.
