Virgil van Dijk, captain of the Netherlands national team, revealed details about his conversation with the team’s new head coach, Xavi Hernandez, which convinced him to continue representing his country. According to the Liverpool defender, the entire discussion lasted just ten seconds.
“There was no need for a long conversation. It was very good. Ten seconds were enough for me to decide to stay,” van Dijk said.
The Netherlands captain explained that Xavi focused primarily on trust and respect during their brief exchange. “He told me: ‘You are Virgil van Dijk.’ That was enough for me to decide to keep playing for the national team,” the defender added.
To date, Virgil van Dijk has earned 96 caps for the Netherlands and scored 13 goals.
