Liverpool head coach Andoni Iraola reflected on his team’s 2-3 defeat to Monaco in a friendly match. The Merseyside side had taken a two-goal lead thanks to strikes from Alexander Isak and Florian Wirtz but surrendered their advantage in the second half. The Reds’ manager acknowledged the squad’s fitness issues just two weeks ahead of the league season opener.

“We delivered an excellent first half, but at the moment we lack the stamina to maintain that level for the full 90 minutes. Monaco looked stronger in the second half and deservedly turned the game around. We won our initial matches, but in the last two we couldn’t keep up the required standard. The players currently don’t have enough energy to last the entire match, so there is still a lot of work to be done in training. There are both positives and negatives to take from this game,” Iraola told LFCTV.
