Atletico Madrid Threatens Legal Action Against Barcelona Over Alvarez Transfer
Tensions between Atlético Madrid, Barcelona, and Julián Álvarez have reached a boiling point. Following Argentina’s 2-0 victory over Austria at the 2026 World Cup, the Madrid striker publicly expressed his desire to leave, hinting at a move to the Catalan club. The response from Atlético’s management was swift and firm.
“Barcelona is showing us disrespect and misleading their fans by attempting a deal they cannot afford. We are filing a complaint with FIFA against Barcelona for negotiating with a player under contract,” stated Atlético’s president, Gil Marín.
The Madrid club also emphasized that they will only release Álvarez if the €500 million buyout clause is met.
